(We Are) Performance - Live A Little

"I'm touched by your obscenity"

(We Are) Performance pulled a The Modern/Matinee Club and changed their name before releasing their debut album. The last time I featured the group, some months ago, they were known simply as Performance. I assume the "(We Are)" bit was added due to legal reasons, but I don't know. It doesn't really matter, though, because their debut is finally out and it's quite good. Other than the singles, I like Live A Little, which I'm posting today. One of the more immediate tracks from the album, it's got a great throbbing beat and some fantastic verses.

The Models - We Got The Beat

"They got the beat"

Another Swedish group today, and a dead ringer for 80's band The Go Gos at times... especially when they're covering one of that very group's tracks. The Models' take on We Got The Beat is an absolute joy for the late summer. It doesn't differ all that much from the original, but updates it enough to make it feel contemporary, with tons of energy and punky attitude. It's the perfect song for a drive to the beach on a hot summer's day and a testament to the original's timelessness.

The Paper Faces - Closure

"I'm just trying to get closer"

The Paper Faces have been featured several times on Alienhits, and it seems like every few months they release something new for free download that warrants a new post about them. For those unfamiliar with the group, they're a pop/rock band from Sweden who broke onto the scene last year with Disco Boy, a fun new wave number. Closure is their newest single: a punky, punchy little track that falls short of the three minute mark by a good twenty seconds. It's taken from their as-yet-released EP, which will be their third. Compile all the songs they've released so far and you've got an entire album's worth of songs!

Frankmusik - 3 Little Words

"Feelings have no thoughts and they ain't got any plans"

Frankmusik was recently featured on Popjustice and from the moment I heard his sound I knew that he was going to be a new Alienhits obsession. Chaotic electro can sometimes be very daunting and hookless, but Frankmusik's sound is incredibly catchy and surprisingly accessible. His debut EP Frankisum is flawless, and 3 Little Words is my favorite track from it. With a blisteringly fast, falsetto chorus and a gazillion different sounds fighting for sonic dominance, it literally sounds like the future of pop music.

The Lovemakers - Misery Loves Company

"I won't give you the luxury of takin' away all your love from me"

California's The Lovemakers were one of the very first bands to appear on Alienhits in its infancy with the now classic Gonna Find, and I'm delighted to be able to write about them again. They've just released a new five song EP on their new label Fuzz Records. The EP itself is an absolute triumph, including not only the five tracks but also a fully produced music video for each one (check them out here, here, here, here, and here). That in itself is a tremendous feat, yet the band is also promising another such EP by the end of the year!! Now, on to the track itself. Misery Loves Company (the title track of the EP) is pure old-school Lovemakers. Catchy as hell with a great dance beat and fantastic lyrics, nothing really needs to be said about it except listen!!
