Halloween Track #10: Tim Curry - Anything Can Happen On Halloween

"Has anybody seen my tambourine?"

I started the Halloween songs with a cover of a Tim Curry track from RHPS, so I think it's fitting to post another Tim Curry song today on Halloween. Plus, I love posting this track each year because it's simply one of the funniest/weirdest Halloween songs ever recorded. The thing is, it doesn't even really work in the context of the (wonderfully campy) movie that it's a part of (The Worst Witch, btw... which I highly recommed). It's an oddball any way you look at it, and that's why it's so perfect. Oh, and be sure to watch the ultra cheesy video too! Happy Halloween!

Halloween Track #9: Infernal - Dead Or Alive

"There's something hidden in your eyes"

Lyrically, maybe this song isn't 100% Halloween (unless stalkers are Halloween themed??), but the music and general tone of Dead Or Alive reminded me of this time of year when I first heard it this summer. The bridge and chorus especially have some wonderful instrumentation that fits in with the rest of the songs I've featured. I've generally tried to feature dancier songs this year since it's a lot easier to find gloomy, slow "indie-ish" Halloween tunes that are good atmosphere but hardly made for the dancefloor.

Halloween Track #8: Darren Hayes - Waking The Monster

"What is he building in there?"

Probably not the best track on Hayes' latest album, but out of the context of the rest of the record, Waking The Monster works great as a Frankenstein Halloween song. Add some ominous, stabbing synths and dark drums and you've got a great track for the holiday. The title alone is perfect. Plus, the narrator voiceover towards the end is very Vincent Price Thriller.

Halloween Track #7: Private - Killer On The Dancefloor

"There's a killer on the dancefloor"

I'm posting a Halloween-themed track by one of the best bands around today, Thomas Troelsen's Private. Ever since the album was released a year ago, Killer On The Dancefloor has been an October favorite of mine. It opens with some great moody strings before transforming into one hell of an electro-stomper, 80's style of course. Perfect for a Halloween party, but honestly perfect for any time of a year. Plus, they just happen to have a wonderfully themed press photo (above).

Halloween Track #6: Mi-Sex - Ghosts

"What did you see? Was it a ghost?"

Spooky synths, ominous guitars, paranormal lyrics... this song by Australian 80's act Mi-Sex seems to be written just for the holiday. Even better, though, is that it's a fantastic synthpop track for any day of the year with a great hook and some funny lyrics. If you like this I recommend the album it came off of: 1980's Space Race. This is a fantastic band!
